Our scholars will be visiting Long Island University: Post's Tilles Center on February 27, 2015 to see the Alvin Alley Dance Company perfom which will compliment the work they have been doing in their ELA classes around the idea of "Hurt and Hope."

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, one of the world’s most beloved dance companies, will inspire, enlighten and entertain audiences as they return to Tilles Center for the Performing Arts for three performances on Friday, February 27 at 8 pm and Saturday, February 28 at 2 and 8 pm. Dance performances at Tilles Center are made possible, in part, by the generous support of the Eric and Sandy Krasnoff Dance Endowment Fund.
The Ailey’s exceptional artists will move audiences with their brilliant artistry and passionate spirit in exciting premieres, dramatic new productions, revered classics and repertory favorites. Friday, February 27 at 8 pm and Saturday, February 28 at 2 pm will feature the new work Lift (Choreography: Aszure Barton), a new production of D-Man in the Waters (Part I) (Choreography: Bill T. Jones) and Revelations (Choreography: Alvin Ailey) and the program Saturday, February 28 at 8 pm is Polish Pieces (Choreography: Hans van Manen), Awassa Astrige/Ostrich (Choreography: Asadata Dafora), Four Corners (Choreography: Ronald K. Brown) and Revelations.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater carries on Alvin Ailey’s pioneering legacy of uplifting, uniting and celebrating the human spirit as Ailey’s extraordinary dancers bring life to a wide variety of premieres, new productions and classic works.
Prior to the launch of Ailey’s exciting new season, Artistic Director Robert Battle visited the White House to accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom – the nation’s highest civilian honor – on behalf of Alvin Ailey. Bestowed 25 years after the passing of the Company’s legendary founder, President Obama proclaimed that “through him, African-American history was told in a way that it had never been told before – with passionate, virtuoso dance performances that transfixed audiences worldwide.”
There is a Performance PLUS! event at 6:45 pm preceding the Friday, February 27 performance with a company representative. Tickets are $5 each, and can be purchased by mail, in person, by fax at 516.299.3817 or by phone at 516.299.3100.
Tickets to see Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Friday, February 27 at 8 pm and Saturday, February 28 at 8 pm are $93, 73 and 53. Tickets to see Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Saturday, February 28 at 2 pm are $78, 63 and 43. All ticket prices include a $3 per ticket facility fee.
